Joss Whedon - along with Chris Nolan the hottest director in Hollywood right now  - will produce a new TV series for ABC, Disney's chief Bob Iger told analysts this afternoon.

Yes, suddenly ABC's future looks significantly brighter than even an hour ago... Whedon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Firefly") is of course esteemed by fans-of-all-things-fanboyish and now, after the "The Avengers" success, all-things-Marvel too, The TV deal is apparently part of an overall Disney package to direct "Avengers 2."

Everyone naturally wants a piece of Whedon - even the CW was (or said it was) thrilled to get a re-packaged version of his "Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog" that'll air as a special this fall. The new series, per Iger, will be based on Marvel characters but wire reports didn't offer additional details about which ones or when the series will launch...
