Justin Bieber tackled, while Usher and Diddy take over 'AI' on Didi Benami's last night
The results of last night's show was predictable and therefore not exciting. However, it seemed quite the contrary behind-the-scenes. As usual, the overriding support was shown for the three breakout contestants this season: Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze and Michael Lynche. Even the original "American Idol," Kelly Clarkson, showed her support, by tweeting: "Crystal Bowersox you are my favorite!! Keep it up!!" But what you didn't see was a fan tackling the tween pop star, Justin Bieber. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Bieber wasn't just there to support his mentor, Usher. He was also there to tape a performance for a future show. During which, Bieber made the mistake of pointing to someone in his fan club who was sitting in the audience. The girl started running up on stage when a security guard grabbed her. Yet, Bieber didn't dissapoint. He made sure to run over to the fan and give her a big hug for her efforts. And this all happened before the live results show began!
As 6:00 p.m. (PT) rolled around, Ruben Studdard came out of hiding to open the show with “Don’t Make ‘Em Like U No More." Nothing too entertaining happened until Katie was banished to one of the "Bottom 3" stools. From there, Usher debuted his new single, "OMG" with a surprise appearance by the producer and co-writer of the song, Will.i.am, from the Black Eyed Peas. Will spit his verse in front of the swaying crowd, then left for the night. But before he left, the theater was filled with a little singing, extensive dancing, and a lot of autotune. That would be a great results show with amazing performances. But that wasn't all! Diddy, in his normal style, made sure to shut down the show with a performance of his newest effort “Hello, Good Morning.”
The entertainment didn't stop there. Didi Benami's boot could be seen from a distance. Her performance the night before left little to be desired. But it seemed like she finally started trying again when she was given a chance to sing for the judges' save after Ryan revealed her status as the week's lowest vote-getter. Her version of Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon," was much better when given a second chance and playing for her "Idol" survival. Even Simon saw this. Which, in turn, made him and the other judges ponder for the first time this season if they should really let her go. After what seemed like ages, Simon finally made the call that they would not be using the save on her. Now, it makes us wonder if their "pondering" was real or just a great pulse-raiser.
