"American Idol" Hollywood round kicks off, with only 20 guys and 20 women making the cut at the end of the two weeks.

Guys are up first this week; Keith Urban says "it does feel a little bit like the 'Hunger Games' -- we'll see who gets to the weaponry first."

They come up in lines of 10, Micah Johnson in the first group -- he's the one who, after what he called a botched operation, has a speech impediment when he speaks.

Nails "Benny and the Jets" -- his voice is "amazing," in Nicki Minaj's words, when he sings. Nate Teo also moves on, baker Gabe Brown,  and one of my favorites, Gurpreet Singh Sarin.

Firefighter Dustin Watts and singing doctor Calvin Peters also get cut; two contestants I thought had a chance to advance with their back stories.

Ah, but when he sings... busts out with "Angels," all the judges have big smiles on their faces. Urban says, "you simply must go on," and he does.

He looks stunned, then she tells him she's just kidding.
