It looks like LL Cool J isn't the only one upset with Fox News.
Just hours after LL Cool J took to Twitter to say that the network had spliced old footage of him into a promo for its Sarah Palin-hosted special in which she profiles "real Americans," country singer Toby Keith said the network did the same thing to him, E! Online reports.
Keith's rep, Elaine Schock, told E! Wednesday that the singer has never been interviewed by Palin but that an excerpt from a 2009 interview appeared on a promo for Fox News' "Real American Stories."
"I have no idea what interview they are using," Schock said. "Toby's talked to Fox a number of times, and I had no idea that this was going to be on Sarah Palin's special. Fox has never contacted me - not now, not when they were putting this together, not at all. I have no idea what they're using."
Manhasset's LL Cool J was seen talking about his grandfather in the promo. "My family is very pro-American. My grandfather used to sit me in his lap, and we would watch all of the old World War II shows that used to come on, back in the day. I'm totally on it, totally into it, and I love it. My grandfather, even after we said grace, he would say, 'Chow!' "
After seeing the promo, LL Cool J posted Tuesday night on Twitter: "Fox lifted an old interview I gave in 2008 to someone else & are misrepresenting to the public in order to promote Sarah Palin's Show. WOW."
The network has since removed his interview from its special, which airs tonight at 10.
But in talking to TVNewser, a representative of Fox News couldn't help but take a jab at LL Cool J, whose real name is James Todd Smith.
" 'Real American Stories' features uplifting tales about overcoming adversity, and we believe Mr. Smith's interview fit that criteria," the rep is quoted as saying. "However, as it appears that Mr. Smith does not want to be associated with a program that could serve as an inspiration to others, we are cutting his interview from the special and wish him the best with his fledgling acting career."
No word yet on the fate of Keith's interview.
