Lombardo's Final New Year's Eve
With three days remaining until New Year’s Eve, The Zone will be taking a look back at some memorable Dec. 31 broadcasts from years past.
Here’s LI’s own Guy Lombardo — Mr. New Year’s Eve before Dick Clark usurped that title — helping to usher in 1977. All these folks crammed into Times Square have lived through the Bicentennial, “Disco Duck” and the Carter-Ford election, so they were ready to party. And they’re doing it without those oversized spectatcles that spell out “1977.”
Even more poignantly, this would be Lombardo’s last New Year’s Eve. He died in November of the new year.
