Netflix's 'Hemlock Grove' horror series

Netflix continues to expand its original streaming offerings with the horror series "Hemlock Grove," directed and executive produced by torture horror auteur Eli Roth, the company announced last week.

The series, starring "X-Men's" Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgard, has shades of "Twin Peaks" in its setup, which involves the discovery of a young girl's mangled body near a Pennsylvania town's abandoned steel mill. It will premiere in early 2013.

There are a lot of suspects: escaped patient from nearby biotech facility? Local Gypsy kid who claims to be a werewolf? Or maybe it's the arrogant rich guy in town with some dark secrets back at the family mansion? In a bit of a twist, two of those suspects (the Gypsy kid and the rich kid) team up to attempt to solve the murder themselves. And discover all kinds of nasty things about their hometown in the process.

The series is based on the novel by Brian McGreevy and will run for 13 episodes.

This is the third original Netflix series, after David Fincher's "House of Cards" and the mobster-in-Norway series "Lillyhammer." Netflix is also producing a fourth season of the previously canceled Fox cult hit "Arrested Development."
