Paul McDonald smiles and lurches on 'American Idol'

Paul McDonald is doing Ryan Adams' "Come Pick Me Up" next on "American Idol," very curious to see how this goes. Ha, starts by asking the audience, "you all doing all right this evening?"

Breathy, distinct tone comes out right away; it's almost like he's strung out with his random movement and dumb-looking grin, but it's really enjoyable to listen to. He's a great performer, so authentic and himself up there. 

"I love the character and the rasp in your voice," says Steven Tyler, but warns him about being pitchy. Jennifer Lopez says everyone was smiling watching you, and Randy Jackson loves "the character of who you are."
