Phyllis Diller has died at age 95, leaving behind a long career of funny bits and a very classic laugh. Some representative moments below, and a quick look at "Splendor in the Grass," her big screen debut, and "The Pruitts of Southampton" (AKA "The Phyllis Diller Show."...: Her humor was of course topical and self-deprecatory, famously so - the hair, the legs, the fashion  were all grist for a self-lascerating wit. She was, as she explained (see below), her own best material. First clip below is the top of her '60s series "The Phyllis Diller Show' - about a wealthy society doyenne who's fallen on hard times (but is allowed to keep her Southampton mansion by the IRS - hey, it was a comedy.) Some trademark stuff here - the wild hair and physical comedy. ABC thought they had another Lucille Ball, but Diller was a complete original. Richard Deacon and John Astin are in this clip. Both were just coming off of huge hits ("The Dick van Dyke Show" and "The Addams Family") but this show was not to become one....
