'Survivor' host on Caleb Bankston's death: He was one of show's most humble, likable
'SURVIVOR' CONTESTANT KILLED Caleb Bankston, a gay Alabamian who competed on last year's "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" with his fiancé, Colton Cumbie, died Tuesday while working on a train car, Birmingham NBC affiliate WVTM reported. Bankston, 27, a train conductor for a coal facility, was helping a train back up when two axles derailed, tilting the car and throwing him out.
GayStarNews.com said Bankston and Cumbie were to be married this fall, although Alabama does not allow same-sex marriages and does not recognize those performed elsewhere.
"Survivor" host and executive producer Jeff Probst said in a statement: "We are shocked and deeply saddened . . . He was one of the most humble and likable contestants we've ever had the pleasure of working with on the show."
