Jennifer Lopez is reportedly out of the running as an "American Idol" judge. But another pop diva, Mariah Carey, says she may want to take Lopez's place.

Lopez had been under consideration by Fox Network executives to be one of two new judges, along with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, slated to replace the departed Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres for the talent show's 10th season. But as a source told People magazine Wednesday, "Her demands got out of hand. Fox had just had enough."

The network had no comment for People, and a representative for Lopez did not return the magazine's calls. The production company, Fremantle Media, told E! News, "No comment."

Waiting in the wings, however, may be fellow singer-actress Carey, whose husband, entertainer Nick Cannon, told The Hollywood Reporter Wednesday that Carey "talks about" joining the judges' table. "She says, 'I would love to do that.' . . . I don't know if she has enough time, though, but if they could work with her schedule, I know she would love to do 'Idol.' Let's start the campaign!"

It remained uncertain Wednesday whether "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi will return.

Her father, former New York Congressman (and current U.S. Senate candidate) Joe DioGuardi, griped to the political TV program "Capital Tonight" Tuesday, "Would you believe that she did not hear and still has not heard anything? . . . Now, what could this be about? I think what they're trying to do is to create a lot of buzz like they did with Paula Abdul."
