Rosie O’Donnell joins cast of Showtime comedy ‘SMILF’

Rosie O’Donnell has joined the cast of the Showtime comedy pilot “SMILF,” based on the Sundance Film Festival Jury Award-winning short film of the same name, reports Newsday contributor Frank Lovece.

The Commack-born comedian, 54, will play Tutu, the unapologetically brash mom of writer-star Frankie Shaw’s character Bridgette, a 20-something whose desires for relationships, sex and a career collide with the realities of young single-motherhood.

Alongside Shaw (“Blue Mountain State”) and O’Donnell, who has had recurring roles on CBS’ “Mom” and ABC Family/Freeform’s “The Fosters,” will be Alex Brightman (Broadway’s “School of Rock”), Graham Rogers (“Quantico”) and newcomer Kyle Vincent Terry.
