'Royal Pains," the book? Yes, the book.

USA and NBC announced this week that the series about a doctor in the Hamptons will get its own tie-in book, and possibly even a tie-in book series. It's called "Royal Pains: First, Do No Harm," by thriller writer D.P. Lyle, M.D. ("Hot Lights, Cold Steel" and "Stress Fracture") and is described by the publisher, Penguin, as "the story of Hamptons aristocrat Eleanor Parker Wentworth. With her granddaughter's wedding approaching, Wentworth has become quite stressed. However, after meeting the bride-to-be at a pre-wedding party, Hank grows concerned when Eleanor shows no recognition of him later that same day."

Hank, as fans know, is Dr. Hank Lawson, played by Mark Feuerstein; the third season launches June 29.

TV tie-in novels have a long history, dating back to at least the '60s, when there were books series tied to many shows, including "Get Smart," "Mission: Impossible" and later "The Six Million Dollar Man." There also have been many so-called novelizations of such shows as "Star Trek," "Battlestar Galactica" and "Doctor Who."
