It's not often that PBS boasts about ratings because there's not a whole lot to boast about, which is what made the "Sherlock Holmes" announcement late Monday a bit unusual: 3.2 million viewers for the second season launch Sunday which is nothing short of spectacular, and clear evidence that the Benedict Cumberbatch Holmes is the new standard against which others must now be set. He's brilliant in the role, and while I haven't reviewed this season, yet, I'm certain last season's glowing notice should still suffice.

“Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have taken Sherlock and Watson to a whole new level,” said Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton. “We’re thrilled that viewers have responded so enthusiastically to this groundbreaking series.”
