Braving the freezing temperature and impending snow, more than 800 fans stood outside a Huntington bookstore Tuesday night where "Jersey Shore" reality TV star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi was signing her book.

When Polizzi, 23, entered Book Revue from a side door, fans on both the mezzanine and ground floor erupted in screams, shouting "Snooki, Snooki," and jumped up and down - even while snapping photos.

Tina Melillo, 24, of Huntington, who was among the first few in line, said she was excited to read the book. "I'm going to sleep with it, with my pouf on the pillow and my jar of pickles next to the bed," she said.

Genevieve Andrews, 14, of Cold Spring Harbor even bought Polizzi a jar of pickles - Polizzi's favorite snack - with a silver bow on the lid. "I like her hair and the way she parties," said Andrews, who arrived at the store at 2:45 p.m. after school.

Polizzi planned to sign 650 books, said Book Revue co-owner Richard Klein. The book signing line opened around noon. By 5 p.m. the books were sold out. Attendees purchased books to be collected later and received adhesive book plates that Polizzi signed.

Dressed in all black - a blazer, top and short skirt with stiletto booties - Polizzi signed each copy of her novel, "A Shore Thing" (Gallery Books, $24), in bright pink marker with assembly-line speed, saying "hello" and "thank you" quickly as fans told her how much they loved her.

Though some later complained that they were rushed and were not able to take photos with Snooki as they hoped, the reasons to love Snooki abounded.

"She's just really funny and always has a good comeback," said Lauren Meaney, 18, of Huntington.

"Even though people may say things about her, she just doesn't care. She keeps going," said Candice Pellicane, 19, of Centerport, who waited two hours outside. "I would love to brush everybody off and just go through life positively."

Crowds were positively chaotic in size, snaking down New York Avenue and on to Wall Street. At least five police officers were spotted managing the line outside and inside.

Polizzi later tweeted about the turnout: "Thanks so much for everyone coming out in LI!" she said. "So insane, you guys are nuts!"
