Take 5: Courteney Cox before 'Friends'

Courteney Cox's sitcom "Cougar Town" returns to TV Tuesday. Cox, of course, is best known for her decade playing Monica Geller on "Friends." But in the decade before she hit it big in 1994, she did have a significant tube presence:

1. BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN'S 'DANCING IN THE DARK' VIDEO (1984) -- In this MTV staple, she got pulled onstage to dance with The Boss.

2. MISFITS OF SCIENCE (1985-86) -- She was part of the ensemble of this superhero fantasy series playing Gloria, a reformed delinquent with telekinetic powers.

3. FAMILY TIES (1987-88) -- She had the recurring role of Lauren Miller, the girlfriend of Alex P. Keaton (Michael J. Fox), in the final season.

4. THE TROUBLE WITH LARRY (1993) -- Cox played the sister of a married woman whose first husband (Bronson Pinchot) returned home years after he was presumed dead. (He was away much longer than this show, which was gone after three episodes.)

5. SEINFELD (March 17, 1994) -- In "The Wife," she was Jerry's girlfriend who pretends to be his spouse so she can share his dry-cleaning discount.
