Take 5: No shrinking violets for couch therapy

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Gabriel Byrne, as Paul on "In Treatment" on HBO Credit: HBO, 2008
Gabriel Byrne returns for the third season of HBO's "In Treatment"(Monday, 9 p.m.), playing the complex psychotherapist Dr. Paul Weston. So it's an appropriate time to lie back on the couch and free-associate these five TV shrinks.
Bob Hartley (Bob Newhart) on "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972-78) - Extremely low-key Chicago psychologist.
Dr. Jason Seaver (Alan Thicke) on "Growing Pains" (1985-92) - Long Island-based psychiatrist whose office was in his home, so he could keep an eye on his kids after his wife went back to work.
Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) on "Frasier" (1993-2004) - Fuddy-duddy Seattle psychiatrist / radio host.
Dr. Niles Crane (David Hyde Pierce) on "Frasier" - Frasier's younger brother; also a psychiatrist, also extremely fuddy-duddy.
Dr. Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco) on "The Sopranos" (1999-2007) - Helped Tony Soprano see things more clearly. Sort of.
