In honor of this week's royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, we offer up five other lovely Kates who have graced our TV screens over the years:

1. KATE COLUMBO She was the unseen wife of Peter Falk's rumpled detective. When that show ended, she became a real person and was spun off into her own 1979 series, "Mrs. Columbo." Did we say she was played by Kate Mulgrew?

2. KATE GOSSELIN Pennsylvania mom of eight whose reality series, "Jon and Kate Plus Eight," then simply "Kate Plus Eight," turned her into tabloid fodder.

3. KATE McARDLE In "Kate & Allie," single mom Kate (played by Susan Saint James) shared a Greenwich Village home with her BFF Allie (Jane Curtin) and their kids.

4. KATE McSHANE Anne Meara played the eponymous title character of network TV's first drama that focused on a female lawyer. Alas, the series lasted only two months in 1975.

5. KATE SMITH The powerful-voiced radio star hosted two shows in the early days of TV (and of course during the 1970s her recording of "God Bless America" was played before many Philadelphia Flyers home games).
