'2 Broke Girls," one of the new season's breakout shows, follows the adventures of a pair of young Brooklyn waitresses (Beth Behrs and Kat Dennings) at a diner in Williamsburg. Let's salute our hardworking servers with this look at five other shows that focused on waitresses.
1. ALICE -- Alice (Linda Lavin), Flo (Polly Holliday) and Vera (Beth Howland) were the major attractions at Mel's Diner in this long-running (1976-85) sitcom based on the movie "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore."
2. IT'S A LIVING -- Early '80s sitcom about five waitresses (among them Ann Jillian and Susan Sullivan) at Above the Top, a posh Los Angeles restaurant.
3. WHAT'S HAPPENING!! -- Shirley Wilson (Shirley Hemphill, right), the oversized waitress at Rob's Diner, regularly sparred with this sitcom's three energetic teen leads.
4. FRIENDS -- When we first met her, and for several seasons thereafter, Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) was making ends meet as a waitress at Central Perk.
5. TRUE BLOOD -- The telepathic Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) draws her paycheck at Merlotte's, Bon Temps' finest eatery, on the HBO vampire series.
