BEVERLY HILLS — Hillary Clinton, suddenly a hot Hollywood property with a movie on the way, appears to suddenly be a hot TV property as well. Which is another way of saying she will be the subject of a four-hour miniseries to air on NBC, most likely next season. Diane Lane stars, and here's the thru-line:
Asked a bit later about this project during the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Bob Greenblatt, NBC Universal Entertainment chief, didn't offer many more specifics, other than to say that it could “well” air before she announces her candidacy two years from now, but that how this might impact the next election is something the creative team behind it is thinking about.
Oh, and this: No one has yet been cast in the role of Bill Clinton; the deal to produce was just signed, sealed and delivered within the last day.
Plus, NBC announced three other intriguing “long-form” projects, including a miniseries remake of “Rosemary's Baby" -- wonder if Greenblatt got the idea from “Mad Men" -- and an adaptation of Stephen King's “Tommyknockers.“
And this: A “limited series” based on the Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock.
