"Terra Nova," one of the most ambitious TV series in recent history, mustered an OK open last night: 9.2 million viewers.
Of greater import is this number: It got a 3.1 in adults 18 to 49, which is pretty good.
There are a couple of ways to look at last night's performance. I assumed it would at least hit 12 million total viewers, although I imagine Fox had a more pragmatic take on matters, especially considering CBS' powerhouse Monday and "Dancing with the Stars."
"Terra Nova" got a 5.2 rating in New York, which certainly wasn't bad, but still. If "TN" settles to around a 2-rating in adults 18 to 49, that may be a number Fox could live with. Maybe.
Nevertheless, Fox did order 13 episodes. The dinosaurs should be with us for a while. Maybe.
Meanwhile, "Two and a Half Men": 20.3 million.
