"The Affair" -- which, it must be dutifully noted, is shot fully on Long Island -- just picked up a second season.

In addition, "Homeland" just got a 5th season order.

Neither pick-up is a surprise, but the news is certainly welcome: "Homeland," which essentially reinvented itself under the very able guidance of showrunner Alex Gansa before the fourth began, has essentially undergone a renaissance this season. This is simply a standout year for one of the best series on television. My review, if you missed...

Meanwhile, "The Affair" -- also one of the best new series of the fall -- seemed to get lackluster numbers when it launched a few weeks back (around 600,000 or so viewers)   but those smartly picked up in the "playback" universe that now dictates the Business of Television.

Check out this line from Showtime:

"On pace to be the network’s most time-shifted original series, THE AFFAIR is averaging 3.9 million weekly viewers across platforms. The series has grown consistently every single week since its premiere, with 87 percent of the show’s audience tuning-in after the original Sunday 10 p.m. telecast."

 And...my take on "The Affair."
