TMZ: J.Lo gets one year on 'Idol'
Here's big news: TMZ, which reported last week that the Jennifer Lopez deal was done, now says she scored just one year.
One year!
At $12 million per.
The headline, of course, is "one year," because the immediate implication is that Fox/"Idol's" confidence in her reversing this franchise's declining fortunes comes under the headline, "the Jury is Out." Certainly makes business sense; why sign a multiyear deal if the whole venture tanks, and then pay out the back end of her deal? By contrast, if she's a huge hit, then the $12 mil goes way up the next year.
As a baseball analogy, this is sort of like hiring a free agent who once had a great career but now the front office isn't too certain ...
Steven Tyler? When will that announcement come? Will it be Tyler ...?
