BEVERLY HILLS -- NBC announced late Tuesday that Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been signed up for 10 episodes of a Bram Stoker "Dracula" remake.

Interesting choice indeed because Meyers is not someone who arrives anywhere without baggage -- notably alcohol abuse problems which presumably are all in his past. He's also a particularly talented guy, as "The Tudors" fans well know.

Here's what NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt said in making the announcement: "We are ordering 10 episodes of a new series called 'Dracula,' I’m happy to say starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers. This is a new version of the classic Bram Stoker’s 'Dracula.' In the world of 'Twilight' and 'True Blood' and all the contemporized vampire stories, we thought we would go back to the original, and the book is still really fresh and really original."
