TV on DVD: Hollywood czars and stars

MOGULS & MOVIE STARS
Docuseries Turner Classic Movies' superb history of Hollywood -- chock full of cool clips and smart observations -- covers the years 1890-1970 in seven chronological hours. Most illuminating are the first two, as motion pictures grow from peepshow curiosity to feature film power, and the last two, as Hollywood's studio system collapses and American cinema tackles adult themes. The middle three hours showcase territory more familiar to TCM devotees.
Extras Hardcover book package provides its own mini-history of Hollywood (and wonderful vintage photos), while on-disc extras include post-episode discussions.
