TV on DVD: Just the facts, 'Dragnet' is out
Dragnet 1968: Season 2
SERIES "Just the facts" half-hour police drama remains iconic for creator-star Jack Webb's deadpan "Ping-Pong" dialogue. It's step-by-step straight-faced to the point of monotony, as detective Webb and partner Harry Morgan ("M*A*S*H") investigate routine L.A. robberies and scams. Yet the uniquely punchy, inexorable pace - and Webb's stern sermonizing - make the formula weirdly riveting. Shout Factory's bonus features make this package what Season 1 (bare bones in 2005 from a different distributor) should have been.
EXTRAS Pilot movie from 1966, half-hour featurette on Webb and his earlier radio-TV "Dragnet" versions, plus detailed series history booklet.
