NFL-bound Simpson had just graduated from USC (whose health center inspired the show), and he isn't bad in his acting debut as an ailing pigskin star. Cicely Tyson plays his worried wife. Other season 1 guest stars: Martin Sheen, Dyan Cannon, Richard Thomas, Mercedes McCambridge, William Shatner, David Cassidy, Tom Skerritt and Tyne Daly (daughter of Everett's TV boss, James Daly).
