'Twin Peaks,' coming in 2017, has a tease

"Twin Peaks" -- easily the most anticipated (by me) classic series reboot of many currently in development -- will arrive in 2017, Showtime has announced. That settles one of the outstanding questions of this Mark Frost/David Lynch project -- to wit, when? 

No further details, but the series did begin production in September, which at least suggested an arrival date coming as early as 2016. But no more. 

Meanwhile, Showtime also released a 50-second tease -- the first of what will doubtlessly be a few. It's a bit of a fever dream this one, beginning with a voice-over ("location sometimes becomes a character") accompanied by some beauty shots of the wild Pacific Northwest (coast), before drifting off to a place where "Peaks" continues to reside in our collective imagination. But you can see for yourself.

Here's how Showtime describes what the series will be about; like the tease, it's nebulous but helpful ...

"Widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential broadcast series of all time, TWIN PEAKS followed the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen Laura Palmer was shockingly murdered. The town's sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura's killer, the town's secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues ..."
