A newly released Lifetime trailer distills the drama of Whitney Houston’s 48-year life into just one minute.

The video — previewing the “Whitney” biopic debuting on the cable network next month —? shows the glamour of her life as a pop superstar and “the greatest voice” of her generation. It gives glimpses of her troubled relationship with husband Bobby Brown and her drug use. And it hints at her tragic downfall, as she is warned, “Whitney, you need to protect the voice.”

While “Whitney” stars Yaya DaCosta, with Arlen Escarpeta playing Brown, the vocals are sung by Deborah Cox. The trailer features snippets of “I’m Every Woman” and “I Will Always Love You.”

The movie, which is Angela Bassett’s directorial debut, premieres Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
