Who will 'Bachelor' Brad Womack choose?
No preview disc available, but ABC says Womack introduces the final two ladies to his family. First is Chantal O'Brien, 28, who breaks the news that she's been married before; Emily Maynard, 24, then tells the story of the death of her boyfriend and father of her child, Ricky.
Meanwhile, two final last dates in South Africa. Brad and Chantal go swimming with the sharks; Emily, on a helicopter ride, challenges him: Is he really ready to be an insta-dad?
MY SAY If we've learned anything over 15 seasons of "The Bachelor," it may be this -- that when some honey-toned stud-puppy with pearly whites whispers sweet nothings into the ears of his dates, he doesn't always mean them. In fact, he usually doesn't. Sincerity is the first casualty of "The Bachelor." Lasting relationships are the second.
Only one bachelor has gotten and stayed married so far -- Jason Mesnick (to Molly Malaney) -- and Womack as the second wouldn't seem like anyone's idea of a good bet. He rejected both finalists in 2007, became a pariah, was invited back, and has spent the last 10 or so weeks convincing fans he's not the craven cad so many had decided he was.
As a second-time Lothario, Womack has been earnest, conscientious and dull. He's said over and over, "I'm here to find a wife," sounding like someone who's filling out an application for a mail-order bride. Is he sincere? I never did get around to reading that Us Magazine story about the woman who said Brad had repeatedly proposed to her before returning to the show. It was mildly scandalous, but at least it made him sound a little more interesting.
BOTTOM LINE Who'll get the final rose? I've spoken to Long Island's leading "Bachelor" expert who -- contrary to all online spoiler reports -- says it'll be Chantal. In fact, Emily does seem too obvious. Whoever it is, I hope they'll be happy together. I do have my doubts.
