2011 Great LI Tomato Challenge: The full story

Last week's 2011 Great LI Tomato Challenge was a huge success -- and a lot of fun. I told you a bit about the winners already and posted some photos from the event.

Here's the full story, as promised.

If you want a piece of the action next year, start planning now. Prepare beds in the fall by tilling the soil to a depth of 8 to 12 inches, incorporating generous helpings of compost. Test the soil and, if indicated, add lime, too. Check back here in the spring for tomato-growing tips, and put the last Friday in August on your calendar. You might be named the 2012 Tomato King or Queen!
