Oceanside resident Margaret Meyer made this wreath from items near and dear to her. Her late husband, Frederick, an artist, gave her the silk orchids on Valentine's Day after she admired them at an outdoor market. "I could never bear to throw them away," says Meyer, 89, a retired administrative assistant. The shells came from their travels to Bermuda, the Caribbean, the Florida Keys and elsewhere. And the feathers? "I would go around and pick up a feather whenever I saw one," she says. Meyer, a lifelong hobbyist, says her work shows "what you can do with very little money." For her thrift and beautiful handiwork, we will send her a copy of "Home Made Simple: Fresh Ideas to Make Your Own" (St. Martin's Griffin, $27.99).
