Catalogs: Chicken soup for the gardener's soul

Garden catalogs can help ease winter's chill (Feb. 2, 2011) Credit: Newsday/Rebecca Cooney
I've had just about enough of this winter. Intellectually, I know that nothing could grow in my garden now anyway, but the snow just makes it worse, covering every brown patch of soil that might offer a glimmer of hope to my off-season sensibilities.
Enter my stack of garden catalogs, for which I am even more grateful this year during this horrendous excuse for a season. We gardeners can clutch these glossy, colorful bits of eye candy and savor the lights at the end of the tunnel as they mercifully hoist us out of winter's doldrums, if only temporarily.
To that end, I'm asking you all to shoot me an e-mail about your favorite catalogs and tell me which of their offerings you'd like to add to your garden this year. I'll compile the results and report back.
