Adventureland in Farmingdale has a new bumper car ride this year called Formula One Bumper Cars. It replaces the former bumper car ride.

The brightly painted red, yellow and blue new cars go up to 6 mph, cruising around a new center island on the course. “There’s a little more direction to it,” operations manager Paul Gentile says of the 3-minute ride.

The height requirement is lower on the new ride — 50 inches tall to drive, 44 inches to be a passenger — which opens the experience up for younger children, he says. The back wall has 2,100 LED lights, which enables the park to flash colorful messages such as birthday greetings or sponsored ads.

Recent riders gave the attraction a thumbs-up. “I never bumped into a car. I got them,” said Raymond Dormevil, 5, of Canarse, after finishing a jolting ride with his dad, also named Raymond. “It’s fun,” dad said. “It’s definitely fun.”

Said Andrea Romeo of Islip, while watching her son, Alex, 11, on the ride, which also had adults participating: “I don’t know who’s worse, the ‘big kids’ or the little kids. I’m just laughing at them.” Added Alex, on disembarking, “It was good how I could always turn around the wheel and go backwards.”

The ride is $6, or included with a pay-one-price bracelet of $29.99. Adventureland is at 2245 Broadhollow Rd. in Farmingdale. For information, call 631-694-6868 or visit adventureland.us
