In 2012, after Superstorm Sandy hit, it destroyed many places such as our local park, Bay Park. There was nothing left at Bay Park except for an old, destroyed field of grass. If you were a team that played at Bay Park, like our football team, the Raiders, you would have to practice on a little field of grass. Three-quarters of the way through the season, it was decided they should design a bigger and better sports complex. So they did.
After two long years of hard work, the 96-acre park, including a sports complex, was finally ready to be opened to the public. This new facility contains many new features such as two turf baseball fields, and a football, soccer and lacrosse field. The fields have field goals for football, and soccer and lacrosse nets. The baseball fields can also be used for softball.
If you don’t want to go on the fields, the park has a turf dog run, new playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, wall ball courts, a nine-hole golf course, a riverbank for fishing and boating, horseshoe pit, and a boccie court.
If you are interested in seeing this new sports complex, be sure to come to Bay Park now! It is located at 198 First Ave., East Rockaway, and it is a beautiful place to visit and play.
