Bayard Cutting Arboretum fun for families

The Bayard Cutting Arboretum used to be the country home of William Bayard Cutting, who lived there with his wife Olivia and four children: William, Justine, Bronson and Olivia. It is an amazing 68-room mansion called Westbrook. The mansion is still in great shape and looks like it did in the 1930s. The family donated all the land to the Long Island State Park commission.

The Bayard Cutting Arboretum, located in Great River, is a great place to visit in your free time. You can do a lot of different things there. One of the cool things you can do is take a walk or tour through the mansion and around the 691 acres of land. There are eight walking paths to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the trees, flowers, gardens, mansion, carriage house and farm all along the Connetquot River. You can even walk inside an enormous beech tree. If you get hungry, you can go to the Hidden Oak Café, where they have sandwiches, soups and many delicious, fresh desserts.

There are many events and activities that take place during the year. They have concerts, tours, art exhibits, painting classes, a garden and harvest festival, and so much more.
