Being bilingual isn’t always easy, especially when you’re the only one at home that speaks both languages. I speak English and Spanish, but my mom still is learning English. Sometimes it can be really hard translating things to her. It’s especially hard when I have a school project or assignment that I need help with. When my mom tries to text in English, she usually has to ask me if it’s correct. Otherwise, it will sound really weird!

I’ve pretty much learned to do all of my work myself and I’m only in fourth grade. If I really need help, I’m lucky that I have English-speaking cousins nearby. My cousins help me search important information I need to find on the computer.

Meanwhile, my mom continues to learn a little more English every day. She is getting better and better and even though she speaks little English, she always encourages me to do my best in school.
