Have you ever traveled the universe before? Well, we did while watching the new movie “A Wrinkle in Time.”

In this spectacular science fiction tale, a girl named Meg Murry (played by Storm Reid) searches for her father throughout the universe. Dad (Chris Pine) disappeared while he was trying to figure out a way to travel through time and the universe. Dad has been gone for four years and during that time, Meg’s personality has changed a lot. She is no longer social with friends, she is getting in trouble in school and is being bullied, too. Her only real friend is her younger brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) and her new friend Calvin O’ Keefe (Levi Miller). Charles Wallace is very, very smart, and he decides that the three of them should travel through time and space to find Dad.

But they can’t do it alone, and as darkness overwhelms the universe, they encounter three beings of light named Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which and Mrs. Who (Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kalling), and they come to the aid of Meg, Charles Wallace and Calvin. With all of the help Meg receives, can she defeat the darkness to rescue her father?

Some of our favorite scenes were when Meg and Charles Wallace are fighting IT. Another exciting scene was when Meg and Calvin are running with velocity from the clutches of a dark and evil storm on the planet Camazotz. Learning to defend themselves without the capabilities of Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which kept the audience curious and interested, we think.

We are currently reading the book “A Wrinkle In Time” by Madeleine L’Engle, and we are enjoying the book so much. It was such a treat to be able to see the movie at the same time. Much like any adaptation of a book, in our opinion this movie missed out on details that may or may not be important.

We think this movie is action-packed and emotional. We found the special effects to be dazzling. Without a doubt this movie will keep the audience interested and amazed. We think if you like the book, you will like the movie, too.

We are giving this movie 4 smiles out of 5 and feel it is appropriate for ages 8 and older.
