Dogs can be so much more than just a great pet. There are many jobs dogs can do. Some of these jobs are therapy dogs, police dogs and rescue dogs. Animals can be trained for their jobs. The dogs are familiarized with hospital equipment. They also do role-playing for a hospital environment.

Therapy dogs can be used in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, retirement homes, hospices, disaster areas and to help people with learning difficulties. They visit people who are lonely and make them feel comfortable. They can help people build self-confidence.

Police dogs look for bad things like guns and drugs and protect citizens from danger. Dogs have a sense of smell that is many times as strong as a human's.

Another job is being a rescue dog. This means that if there is a fire, accident or crime scene a dog may help find missing items or people.
