Two free workshops geared to parents of young children with special needs are being offered this week by the Long Island Early Childhood Direction Center.

“Transitioning from Early Intervention to Preschool Special Education” is scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at LIU Post’s Tilles Center Patron’s Lounge, 720 Northern Blvd., Brookville. This workshop is meant to help parents of 3-year-olds whose children's services will be moving from their county’s birth-to-3 early intervention programs to their local school districts. “It’s a confusing time for parents,” says Jenny Andersson, early childhood specialist with the center. “Who you go to for help changes, and regulations change. It’s a really important workshop.”

“Addressing Challenging Behavior in Preschool and Beyond” is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at SILO Inc., 755 Waverly Ave., Holtsville. While the workshop will focus on strategies for children with disabilities, “the strategies can be used for almost anybody,” Andersson says. “It’s the same principles.”

To register for either seminar, call 516-413-8229, although walk-ins are also welcome. For more information on the Early Childhood Direction Center, visit liearlychildhoodliu.org.
