I read “Every Shiny Thing” by Cordelia Jensen and Laurie Morrison (Amulet Books).

For two girls, Lauren and Sierra, doing the right thing means breaking the rules. This book is an amazing story about two friends who meet and instantly become friends. Sierra’s mom is a thief and makes horrible choices, and her dad makes poor choices, too. She travels to a foster home where she meets Lauren.

Lauren’s brother has autism, and her parents send him to a boarding school. Lauren is not happy with the decision and starts thinking about simplicity even though she’s rich. The girls meet on their way to school. Soon Lauren’s old friend turns on her. Lauren starts to steal from the rich for the poor.

I give this book a five-smile rating because it is very realistic. Some of you will connect to the characters. It shows you that no one is perfect and jealousy can get you down, but if you show it, you are in a pickle. Read this book. It’s amazing, and you will learn so much.

Rating: 5 smiles out of 5
