Looking for things to do with your kids this weekend? There's so much going on around Long Island, from free family events to workshops, performances and more. Here are my top picks for Mother's Day weekend:

1. How I Became a Pirate at CM Performing Arts Center in Oakdale. Check out this family-friendly performance on Saturday, May 12, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $9.

2. Mother's Day Nature Scrapbooking at The Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center at Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh. A nice idea for a homemade Mother's Day gift, children will learn about scrapbooking. Be sure to bring pictures. The event is $4, children under 3 are free on Saturday, May 12, from 10:30 a.m. Reservations are required.

3. Workshop: Barnyard Babies at Benner's Farm in Setauket. On Saturday, May 12, children ages 3 and up can get up close and personal with baby animals and learn about how to take care of them. The event begins at 10 a.m. and tickets are $35.

4. Grow Plants, Grow! at the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center in Bridgehampton. This hands-on workshop teaches kids about growing plants; must register. The event is on Sunday, May 13, at 10 a.m.; tickets are $7 adult, $5 children.

5. Mother's Day Tea Party at Cupcake Corner Too in Garden City. Enjoy crepes, scones, fresh fruit, teas, lemonade, cupcakes and assorted cookies with your family on Sunday, May 13, at 11 a.m. Bonus? Kids can create a Mother's Day craft and every mom receives a gift. Reservations are required; prices are $12.95 child, $19.95 adult.
