Family-friendly performances on Long Island in September

Children love watching their favorite characters come to life on stage, and there's no shortage of theatrical events on Long Island. Since many of the shows require some forethought, here's a sampling of family-friendly shows throughout September to help you plan a fun-filled day.
Jack and the Beanstalk at John W. Engeman Theater (250 Main St., Northport) on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. and Sunday, Sept. Sept. 8 at 10:30 a.m. Based on the famous fable, this performance features Jack and a giant beanstalk. Price: $15.
Sesame Street Live: Make a New Friend at Nassau Coliseum (1255 Hempstead Tpke., Uniondale) on Friday, Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15 at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Elmo, Grover, Abby Cadabby and their Sesame Street pals welcome Chamki, Grover's friend from India. Together, they explore fun and friendship through singing, dancing and more. Price: $22-$100.
Cinderella’s Glass Slipper at Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts (2 East Main St., Smithtown) on Saturdays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 11 a.m. starting Sept. 14 through Sept. 29. Join Cinderella, her cruel stepmother, silly stepsisters, Brunhilda and Cleopatra, the Fairy Godmother and of course the prince in this classic tale featuring songs by Bill Francoeur. Price: $15.
