'Frozen'-inspired winter wonderland in Cold Spring Harbor

Meet Elsa, create an Olaf snowman from marshmallows and pretzels and see museum exhibits decorated with sparkles, snowflakes and glittery branches from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday when the Whaling Museum & Education Center of Cold Spring Harbor, 301 Main St., transforms into a "Frozen"-inspired winter wonderland.
Other activities include having faces painted like "Frozen" characters, hearing festive music, sharing ice pops and visiting the photo booth for a complimentary "Frozen" photo.
"We're always trying to think of really fun events to get people in the door. The film 'Frozen' is huge right now," says Nomi Dayan, museum executive director. Her own daughter, age 4, is a "Frozen" fan, she says.
Of course, the museum will also be encouraging kids to learn about whales and other animals that live in frozen lands, as is its mission, Dayan says. Kids will be able to explore a narwhal tusk and walrus tusks, for instance. "Walrus use them for defense, and to haul their bodies out on the ice," Dayan says. "One male walrus can weigh 4,000 pounds."
Tickets are $10 a child and $6 per adult and include museum admission. Can't make it this time? The museum plans to repeat the event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 16. It's also offering "Frozen"-themed birthday parties.
