Relay For  Life is a fundraiser that brings communities together to honor cancer survivors and those who passed away because of cancer. All the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. Volunteers spend their time and effort because they believe it’s time for a change for cancer. Come join and save a life!

Each year many schools join Relay For Life events that take place in more than 20 countries. At some schools they have an overnight community gather to give students, staff and survivors everyone an opportunity to fight cancer and save lives.

In Great Neck South Middle School, we do it differently. We decorate luminaria bags and write something about a loved one who passed away. We also had events at Applebee’s and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza.

At Applebee’s, there is an auction, and all the proceeds go to Relay For Life. We have fun activities like Comedy Night, for teachers only, and also Paint for a Cause, which costs $10 a person to make something fun with paint. Again, all the proceeds go to Relay For Life.

We also had a fun event called Teacher Talent Show, with many teachers performing one of their talents. Each ticket cost $5 and once again, all the proceeds went to Relay For Life.
