Girls: Audition for Broadway show 'Matilda' on Sunday

Girls ages 8 to 10 who are shorter than 4-feet-4, Sunday could be a big day for you.

You can audition for the role of Matilda in “Matilda the Musical,” which is coming to Broadway in the spring. Check-in is 10 a.m. and auditions begin at 11 a.m. Sunday on the 12th floor at Pearl Studios, 519 Eighth Ave., between 35th and 36th streets in Manhattan.

You should be a strong singer and confident speaker. You should look like the runt of the litter, but be bright, fearless and focused and able to speak assertively. Matilda escapes into books and her imagination.

Bring a recent picture and resume that includes height, birth date, and a parent or guardian phone number and email address. You should also state any previous or relevant experience, although none is required. Staple your picture and resume together.

Most important for this open casting call: Prepare a short story or poem in the style of Roald Dahl; it should be memorized. Also bring sheet music for a short song; a piano accompanist will be provided.

"Matilda the Musical" will open on Broadway April 11, 2013, at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre, 225 W. 44th St. It’s the story of a little girl who decides that despite her rotten parents and terrifying school, her life is going to be an astonishing one. It’s based on the 1988 story by Roald Dahl. Matilda premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s home in Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2010 and then moved to London’s West End in October 2011.
