We interviewed two inspiring girls, Victoria Tercy and Ecaterini (Catie) Chios, who are on the boys’ football team at Clarke Middle School. Victoria is in eighth grade. She joined the team last year. Catie is in seventh grade and joined this year. We asked them a bunch of questions about being on the team.
We asked if the coach makes them work harder than the boys. Victoria replied, “Not really. We’re all part of a team. He treats us all the same.”
Catie added, “He doesn’t treat anyone differently.”
We also asked them what advice they would give kids who want to try something new or difficult to do. They said that kids should stick to their dreams and not listen to what anyone else says. Catie said, “Just do it.” When we asked them if they thought that our school should have a girls’ football team, Victoria replied, “Of course,” and Catie said, “Yeah, definitely.”
They seemed very positive and confident in themselves. They always looked on the bright side. They want everyone to try things that are new and that are their dreams and they don’t care what anyone thinks about their gender.
