Looking for places to go during summer break can be a hassle. Luckily I'm here to point you in the right direction. The Baiting Hollow Hummingbird Sanctuary is a great place to go. It's in Riverhead next to the 4-H camp. Once you get to the sanctuary, there's a road to drive up to the actual area to walk. After you drive up the road, signs direct you to a trail. Depending on which way you take, you'll end up in a large area with seats. Beyond that area is a sea. The view of it is amazing. Beautiful flowers line the cliff where the sitting area ends. I suggest you bring a good camera with you. As you start near the end of the trail, bright-colored flashes might pass before your eyes. No, you're not going crazy. Those are the hummingbirds. Break out your camera now because they move fast. Walking back you'll realize how much fun you had.

They are only open in August and only by appointment. I definitely recommend it for everyone. They are located: Terry Farm Road, Baiting Hollow. Online: lihummer.org
