'iLuminate,' playing Off-Broadway, is worth the trip
Do you love shows with dancing and brightly colored lights? If so, you will love
"iLuminate" which is currently Off-Broadway in Manhattan. We went to the New World Stages Theater last week to see this incredible show.
This group got its start when it appeared on TV's "America's Got Talent." They also have gone on tour with singers like Chris Brown to provide entertaining background dancing.
For most of the show, the theater is in total darkness. There are many eye-catching effects using lights and sounds. The performers are both acrobats and dancers. At one point, the performers come together and it looks like they are a colorful 10-armed creature.
One of our favorite parts was when a floating basketball and hoop appeared out of nowhere in the dark. It looked as if the basketball was magically floating in the air through the hoop.
At the end of the show, we met the entire cast backstage. It was fascinating to see all the special equipment they need to put on the show.
We loved this show and recommend it for kids who are 9 and older. Some of the parts are a little scary because the theater is dark and the show is a little unpredictable. Overally, it is a colorful, energetic show with amazing Technicolor effects.
