Possibly the most famous ice-skating rink in the world is at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan. What better way to enjoy this amazing experience than by attending the special Afternoon Tea and Skating. We did this recently and had the best time. The afternoon tea at Rock Center Café is a calm, relaxed environment where you can eat at rink-side tables that are a nice distance from each other, which made the experience feel special.

Starting off with drinks, the lemonade was refreshing and the hot chocolate, which came with toppings such as peppermints, marshmallows, whipped cream and chocolate shavings, warmed our spirits. Next, two three-tier tea trays were brought to the table that contained miniature tea sandwiches and desserts. The grilled cheese was gooey and delectable and we all agreed that the freshly baked brownies were just plain great! Most of the food was kid-oriented but others like the salmon sandwich were better for adults. We would probably say that a kid would have the best experience with all the food if they are 10 or older.

After we ate, we put on our skates and hit the ice! (literally!) Some of us fell at first, but since the ice sessions were for such a long time — 90 minutes — once we got used to skating we were able to enjoy flying past one another on the ice. If we had trouble, there were professional skaters who gave us tips and helped us.

The afternoon tea and ice-skating package is one of the coolest things to do in New York City. When the cold is getting to you, a great meal and ice-skating is sure to cheer you up. Next time you’re in Manhattan, make sure to check out Afternoon Tea and Skating at the Rock Center Café. This great day starts at 3:30 p.m. and it includes the tea, skating and rentals. This great program continues through April 10. For more information visit: therinkatrockcenter.com/tea-party-skating
