Officials are encouraging the public to stay home but we understand you and your kids may need a break for some air to escape, unwind and recharge.

Fortunately, there are many family-friendly places and events open this weekend, welcoming Long Island families to warm up and have some fun.

So if you live close to these destinations, here's a rundown of what's open this weekend:

Kids missed out on trick-or-treating? Here are two events in Nassau and Suffolk.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano invites parents with children to the "Hurricane Sandy Trick-or-Treat Halloween Party" from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. tomorrow at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building (1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola). It will be decorated as a haunted house and free candy will be handed out at various offices throughout the building. Best costume wins a prize!

Enjoy Trunk Trick-or-Treating at Fireman's Park in Lindenhurst at 2 p.m. tomorrow. Decorate your trunk or car, wear costumes and bring candy for kids to have a safe postponed Halloween. Call the Village Hall or fire department for more details.
